Wildfire in Western NC: Burn ban, state of emergency in effect, 2 homes destroyed so far
EDNEYVILLE, NC (WLOS) — Local and state firefighters continue working to contain a large brush fire burning in Henderson County.
County officials said on Monday, around 9:43 a.m., that the Poplar Drive Fire burning in the Edneyville community remained at about 431 acres and is currently 5% contained.
Weather conditions did improve overnight, so no changes to the fire were reported this morning.
Local fire departments are focusing on structure protection, as the N.C. Forest Service is focusing on putting in the fire lines, officials said.
Upon further assessment by the N.C. Forest Service Sunday, there have been a total of two homes, one outbuilding and one uninhabited cabin destroyed, and one home damaged. There have been 34 evacuations so far.
